What Is A Podcast And Should I Have One?

I’m always amazed when I talk to people in the radio industry about podcasts only to find out that they really don’t know what a podcast is. Many people believe that a podcast is any file on their website that listeners download, but podcasts are much more powerful and compelling than that.

So what is a podcast and why is it so great? Well a podcast is an ongoing audio/video series that your listeners can subscribe to. After subscribing to your podcast, your listeners will automatically receive your latest update as soon as it is posted. In order to do this your listeners will need an “aggregator“, which is a piece of software such as iTunes, to automatically download your latest podcast when it’s available. I know all this may sound confusing but once a podcast is set-up, it is just matter of updating it. (more…)

Technology is rapidly finding its way into the radio industry’s backyard. Stations that rely on hooking listeners with traffic and weather reports are going to have to change their game plan in the near future. Every day new devices are hitting the streets with features that make turning on the radio simply unnecessary.

Not only is the technology getting more and more widespread, but it’s also getting smaller and more useful.  I’m sure you’ve heard many times that smartphones are the greatest thing since sliced bread. Well since the launch of the iPhone, mobile technologies have been pushed to new limits. (more…)
