Streaming Radio On The Road

It’s not here yet, but it’s not far off. I’m talking about listening to online radio in the comfort of your car. This week Chrysler announced that it will be adding a wireless Internet option to its 2009 model cars.

The service will be part of what Chrysler is calling its  ”uconnect” system. The system will provide Bluetooth connectivity for cellphones and MP3 player integration with the car stereo. The system also has navigation and real-time traffic features, controlled by voice recognition or a touch screen. (more…)

Technology is rapidly finding its way into the radio industry’s backyard. Stations that rely on hooking listeners with traffic and weather reports are going to have to change their game plan in the near future. Every day new devices are hitting the streets with features that make turning on the radio simply unnecessary.

Not only is the technology getting more and more widespread, but it’s also getting smaller and more useful.  I’m sure you’ve heard many times that smartphones are the greatest thing since sliced bread. Well since the launch of the iPhone, mobile technologies have been pushed to new limits. (more…)
